Taste Test - Tsujiru Matcha Restaurant

I was thrilled to hear about this restaurant opening in Montreal because I am truly a huge fan of 'Matcha' tea and 'Matcha' tea desserts.

Tsujiri was founded in Japan in 1860 and is known for using green tea leaves from the Uji region of Kyoto. Tsujiri refined the cultivation of Gyokuro which is the highest grade of Japanese green tea which is still being used in all of their signature treats.

If you are not familiar with traditional Japanese ‘matcha’ desserts, this is the place to go and experiment. While many shops offer ‘matcha’ desserts, unless using premium grade ‘matcha’, it’s just not the same.

The menu at Tsujiri is packed with food and drink of course made with the finest ‘matcha’ powdered green tea.  There is a large variety of cakes such as sponge cake, cheese cake, layered cake, ice cream and shaved ice all made with matcha!

I however went for the traditional matcha parfait! This is a dessert made of layers upon layers of matcha infused ingredients with varying textures such as sweet red beans and chestnuts, soft matcha ice cream, roasted rice sprinkles, mochi (Japanese rice cake) cereal flakes, matcha wasabi (a chewy, jelly-like mochi covered with sweet and nutty soybean powder) and finally hard matcha ice cream on the bottom! Let me say it was a taste of Japan ~ heavenly!!

Go ahead - highly recommended if you are fan of all things Japanese!
